Year 2 - Rabbit Class

Growing in Confidence, Independence and a Love of Learning!

Welcome to Rabbit Class! Our class teacher is Mrs Cupples, and we are lucky enough to have Mrs Standing, Miss Lola and Mrs Hill who also help us with our learning.

Year 2 is an exciting year as children build on their learning from Year 1, develop greater independence and prepare for the next stage of their school journey.

In Rabbit Class, we encourage children to be curious, challenge themselves, work together and take pride in their achievements.

Our school values of Aspire, Belong and Care help us create a happy, supportive classroom where everyone feels valued and ready to learn.

Life in Rabbit Class

Every day brings new opportunities to learn, explore and have fun!

Children enjoy practical activities, creative experiences, outdoor learning and opportunities to develop their independence as they progress through Key Stage 1.

We encourage children to build positive friendships, develop resilience, take responsibility and grow in confidence when facing new challenges.

Our Learning

In Year 2, children continue to strengthen their reading, writing and mathematics skills while enjoying a broad and exciting curriculum.

We focus on developing fluent and confident readers, encouraging children to become increasingly independent writers and building secure mathematical understanding.

You can find more information about the subjects we teach and the learning covered throughout the year on our Curriculum pages.

Supporting Learning at Home

There are lots of simple ways to help your child flourish:

  • Read together every day – Listen to your child read and talk about the characters, events and ideas in books.

  • Practise spelling – Encourage your child to use their phonics knowledge and practise common spelling patterns.

  • Explore numbers – Practise number bonds, addition, subtraction and counting in steps through games and everyday activities.

  • Encourage writing – Give your child opportunities to write stories, lists, messages or letters.

  • Build independence – Encourage your child to organise their belongings and take responsibility for simple tasks.

  • Celebrate effort – Praise perseverance, curiosity and a willingness to try new things.

Our class newsletters share what we are learning each term, important information and ideas for supporting your child at home. We share these on ClassDojo.
