Year 3- Otter Class

New Challenges, Growing Confidence and Exciting Discoveries!

Welcome to Otter Class! Our class teacher is Mr Leddy, and we are lucky enough to have Mrs Thornton and Mrs Hill helping us at different times. We are an enthusiastic bunch who love to learn and are extremely inquisitive.

Year 3 is an exciting year as children begin their Key Stage 2 journey, build on their learning from Year 2 and develop greater confidence and independence.

In Otter Class, we encourage children to be curious, embrace new challenges, work together and take pride in their achievements.

Our school values of Aspire, Belong and Care help us create a happy, supportive classroom where everyone feels valued and ready to learn.

Life in Otter Class

Every day brings new opportunities to learn, explore and have fun!

Children enjoy practical activities, creative experiences, outdoor learning and opportunities to develop their independence as they begin Key Stage 2.

We encourage children to build positive friendships, develop resilience, take greater responsibility for their learning and become confident when tackling new challenges.

Our Learning

In Year 3, children continue to develop their reading, writing and mathematics skills while exploring a broad and exciting curriculum.

We focus on developing reading fluency and comprehension, encouraging children to become increasingly confident writers and strengthening their mathematical understanding, including learning multiplication tables.

You can find more information about the subjects we teach and the learning covered throughout the year on our Curriculum pages.

Supporting Learning at Home

There are lots of simple ways to help your child flourish:

  • Read regularly – Encourage independent reading and talk about the characters, events and ideas in books.

  • Practise spelling – Help your child learn spelling patterns and apply them in their writing.

  • Learn times tables – Practise multiplication and division facts through games, songs and quick challenges.

  • Encourage writing – Give your child opportunities to write stories, letters, diaries or descriptions.

  • Build independence – Encourage your child to organise their belongings, manage routines and take responsibility for their learning.

  • Celebrate effort – Praise perseverance, curiosity and a willingness to tackle new challenges.
