Our Typical School Day

Our School Day

Together we Flourish | Aspire • Belong • Care

At Winford Church of England Primary School, we want every child to feel happy, safe and ready to learn.

Our school day provides a balance of engaging lessons, play, physical activity, collective worship and opportunities to develop friendships. We encourage children to become independent, build positive relationships and make the most of every learning opportunity.

School Opening and Closing Times

Part of the Day Time
School gates open 8.30am
Doors open 8.40am
Morning Registration/Gates close         8.50am
Afternoon registration 1.00pm
End of the school day 3.10pm

The school day runs from 8.40am to 3.10pm, providing 32 hours and 30 minutes per week.

Children should arrive in good time to be settled and ready for registration at 8.50am. Morning tasks are ready for them when they arrive.

Arriving at School

Our school gates open at 8.30am, allowing children time to arrive and settle before the school day begins.

We encourage families to establish positive morning routines and arrive punctually. A calm start helps children feel confident, included and ready to learn.

The school gates close at 8.50am.

Children arriving after this time must enter through the main school office, where their arrival and reason for lateness will be recorded.

If your family is experiencing difficulties with morning routines or punctuality, please speak to us. We are happy to work together to explore practical solutions.

Parking and Keeping Everyone Safe

We ask all parents and carers to park safely, legally and considerately when dropping off or collecting children.

Our school is part of a village community, and it is important that we respect our neighbours and help keep the roads and pavements safe for everyone.

Please remember to:

  • Park only where it is safe and legal to do so.

  • Keep driveways, entrances and access routes clear.

  • Avoid parking on pavements or anywhere that obstructs pedestrians, particularly children and families with pushchairs or wheelchairs.

  • Take extra care when driving or manoeuvring near the school.

  • Be patient and courteous towards other families, residents and road users.

  • Walk to school where possible to help reduce congestion.

School Car Park

The school car park is for staff use only.

The only exception is the designated disabled parking bay, which is available for Blue Badge holders.

Parents and carers should not enter or park in the staff car park for routine drop-off or collection unless they are using the designated disabled bay with a valid Blue Badge.

Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe and for showing consideration to our neighbours.

Learning Throughout the Day

Our school day is designed to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, with opportunities for children to learn, explore, practise new skills and develop their interests.

Alongside English and mathematics, children enjoy a wide range of curriculum subjects and enriching experiences, including PE, music, religious education, creative activities and outdoor learning.

Our woodland, gardening areas and other outdoor spaces provide opportunities for practical learning, teamwork, independence and personal development.

Breaktimes and Lunchtime

Playtimes are an important part of children's development, giving them opportunities to be active, build friendships and develop social skills.

Children enjoy a range of outdoor play experiences, including imaginative play, physical activities and opportunities to explore our school grounds.

At lunchtime, children can enjoy a school meal or bring a healthy packed lunch from home.

We are a nut-free school because of severe allergies within our school community. Please do not include nuts or products containing nuts in packed lunches or snacks.

Further information can be found on our School Meals page.

Collective Worship and Reflection

As a Church of England school, collective worship is an important part of our daily life.

Through worship, children have opportunities to explore our Christian vision and values, reflect on important questions, celebrate achievements and consider how we can care for others and the wider world.

Our vision, Together we Flourish, helps shape the way we learn, play and grow together.

PE Days and Outdoor Learning

Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on their designated PE days.

Class teachers will share PE days with parents through their usual communications.

Outdoor learning takes place throughout the year, so children should have a suitable waterproof coat in school.

For Forest Activities and other outdoor sessions, teachers will let families know when additional clothing, such as wellies or waterproof trousers, is required.

Please ensure that all clothing and belongings are clearly labelled with your child's name.

Breakfast and After School Club

We offer wraparound care to support families and provide children with a safe, welcoming environment beyond the normal school day.
