Starting School in Reception – September 2027

Children who were born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023 are normally due to start Reception in September 2027.

Applications for Reception places are made through your home local authority, rather than directly to the school.

For families living in North Somerset, applications are managed by North Somerset Council.

The national closing date for Reception applications is 15 January 2027.

We strongly encourage families to apply before the deadline, even if they have an older child already attending Winford.

You can find full information about the admissions process, including how to apply and the admissions criteria, on the North Somerset Council website.

Apply for a Primary School Place – North Somerset Council

If you live outside North Somerset, you should apply through the local authority responsible for your home address.

Joining Winford During the School Year

We also welcome enquiries from families who are moving into the area or considering a change of school.

Applications for a place outside the normal Reception admissions round are known as in-year applications.

Availability will depend on the number of pupils currently in the relevant year group and the school's admission arrangements.

Please contact our school office to discuss your enquiry and arrange a visit.

You can also find information about in-year admissions through North Somerset Council's school admissions pages. North Somerset Admissions Page

Supporting Your Child's Transition

We understand that starting a new school is a big step for children and their families.

At Winford, we place great importance on helping children feel safe, confident and ready for this exciting new chapter.

For children joining Reception, we provide opportunities to become familiar with our school environment, meet staff and begin building positive relationships before starting school.

We work closely with parents, carers and early years settings to get to know each child's individual strengths, interests and needs.

For children joining us in other year groups, we take care to support a positive transition, helping them settle into their new class, make friends and feel part of our school community.

Our value of Belong is especially important during this time. We want every child to know that there is a place for them at Winford.

Additional Needs and Inclusion

We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming education for children with a wide range of strengths and needs.

If your child has special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), we encourage you to contact us to discuss how we can support their transition and learning.

Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), Ms Pauline Adams, works closely with families, staff and other professionals to understand and plan for children's needs.

Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) follow a separate statutory admissions process, coordinated through the relevant local authority.

Please visit our SEND and Inclusion page for further information.

Before and After School Care

We recognise that wraparound care is important for many families.

Winford offers Breakfast Club and After School Club provision to support families before and after the school day.

For information about session times, charges, availability and booking arrangements, please visit our Wraparound Care page.

We Look Forward to Welcoming You

We hope that our website gives you a flavour of what makes Winford such a special place to learn and grow.

If you have any questions about admissions or would like to arrange a visit, please get in touch. Our friendly team will be happy to help.

Together we Aspire. Together we Belong. Together we Care. Together we Flourish.
