Reception - Hedgehog Class
Little Learners, Big Adventures!
Welcome to Hedgehog Class, the home of our youngest learners at Winford!
Miss Bennett is our teacher and Miss Thomas is our Teaching Assistant. We have a delightful open-plan classroom with access to our own enclosed play area. It is bright and welcoming and makes for an excellent learning space. Every day is filled with fun, independent learning activities as well as teacher-led and small group work. We benefit from many practical learning experiences, both indoors and outdoors, and through play-based learning we explore, discover and develop a wide range of skills.
Starting school is an exciting adventure, and we want every child to feel happy, safe and confident as they begin their journey with us.
In Hedgehog Class, we learn through play, exploration and discovery. We encourage children to be curious, develop friendships, become more independent and enjoy trying new things.
Our school values of Aspire, Belong and Care help us create a warm and welcoming environment where every child can flourish.
Life in Hedgehog Class
Every day brings opportunities to explore, play and learn!
Our children enjoy stories, songs, creative activities, construction, imaginative play, outdoor adventures and much more.
We make the most of our indoor and outdoor learning environments, encouraging children to develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.
Our Mini-Maxi Mates
Every Hedgehog has a special Mini-Maxi Mate in Year 6!
Our older pupils help their younger partners feel welcome and included, spending time with them at breaktimes and lunchtimes and sometimes sharing books together.
These friendships are a lovely part of our Winford school family.
Our Learning
Hedgehog Class follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, with learning carefully planned to support children's development.
You can find more information about our approach, the areas of learning and how we teach early reading, writing and mathematics on our dedicated EYFS Curriculum page.
