SIAMS - Our Church School Inspection
Together We Flourish
"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." – John 10:10
At Winford Church of England Primary School, our Christian foundation is central to who we are and how we live and learn together.
Our vision, Together We Flourish, is rooted in the words of Jesus in John 10:10. We believe that every child and adult should have the opportunity to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Our three school values help us live out this vision every day:
-
Aspire – We encourage everyone to aim high, embrace challenges and become the best they can be.
-
Belong – We celebrate our differences and ensure that everyone feels welcomed, valued and included.
-
Care – We show kindness, compassion and respect for ourselves, one another and the world around us.
As a Church of England school, we welcome children and families of all faiths and none. Our Christian foundation shapes our ethos of inclusion, dignity, hope and care for others.
What is SIAMS?
SIAMS stands for the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools.
All Church of England schools are inspected through SIAMS, alongside their regular Ofsted inspections.
While Ofsted considers the quality of education and other aspects of school effectiveness, SIAMS focuses specifically on how a school's Christian vision shapes its work and enables pupils and adults to flourish.
SIAMS explores how our vision influences the curriculum, relationships, leadership, collective worship, religious education and the wider life of our school.
It is not simply about what we say we believe, but about the difference our Christian vision makes to the everyday experiences of our children, staff and families.
What Does SIAMS Look At?
The SIAMS inspection framework focuses on six key questions:
1. Christian Vision
How does our theologically rooted Christian vision enable pupils and adults to flourish?
2. Curriculum
How does our curriculum reflect our Christian vision and provide opportunities for children to grow academically, personally and spiritually?
3. Collective Worship
How does collective worship help pupils and adults to flourish spiritually?
4. Relationships and Wellbeing
How does our Christian vision create a culture in which everyone is treated with dignity, kindness and respect?
5. Justice and Responsibility
How does our Christian vision encourage children and adults to take responsibility, challenge injustice and make a positive difference to the world?
6. Religious Education
How effective is our Religious Education curriculum in developing children's knowledge, understanding and respect for Christianity and other religions and worldviews?
These questions help us reflect on how effectively our Christian vision is lived out across school life.
Living Our Christian Vision at Winford
Our vision is much more than words on a wall. It guides our decisions, relationships and the opportunities we provide for children.
Collective Worship and Spirituality
Collective worship is an important part of our school day, providing opportunities to come together, reflect, celebrate and explore Christian teachings and values.
We also encourage spiritual development through our approach to Windows, Mirrors and Doors:
-
Windows – Looking out at the world with awe, wonder and curiosity.
-
Mirrors – Reflecting on our experiences, feelings, beliefs and choices.
-
Doors – Responding through our actions, making a difference and putting our values into practice.
At Winford, we describe spirituality as:
Spirituality is finding moments of awe, wonder, reflection and connection that help us grow in faith, hope and love.
Religious Education
Our Religion and Worldviews curriculum encourages children to explore Christianity alongside other religions and worldviews.
We aim to develop curiosity, understanding, respect and the ability to ask thoughtful questions about faith, belief and the world around us.
Caring for Others and Our World
Our Christian vision encourages children to recognise that they have a responsibility to care for others, their community and the environment.
Through pupil leadership, charitable activities, environmental projects and everyday acts of kindness, children are encouraged to put their values into action.
Our Church and Community
We value our close relationship with the Church of St Mary and St Peter in Winford and the wider Christian community.
Church services, visits, prayer, worship and opportunities to explore Christian traditions help our children understand and experience our Church school foundation.
Our Most Recent SIAMS Inspection
Winford Church of England Primary School was last inspected under the SIAMS framework in November 2022, when the school was judged to be Good.
Since that inspection, we have continued to develop our Christian vision, values, collective worship and opportunities for spiritual development.
The SIAMS framework was updated in September 2023, with further revisions in September 2026. Under the current approach, inspections focus on the impact of a school's Christian vision rather than awarding the previous graded judgements.
We see SIAMS as an important opportunity to reflect on our strengths, celebrate the ways in which our school community flourishes and identify how we can continue to grow.
