Sports

The school enhances the curriculum with a range of clubs and activities, some of which are provided at a cost to parents. These include a range of sports, languages and curriculum clubs as well as music lessons in Key Stage 2. The school works in partnership with a range of providers and school staff provide a wider variety of clubs for free. Our sports club offer often include football for infants, football for juniors, cricket, tennis, netball and fencing.

Children in Years 3 and 4 have swimming lessons at the start of the Autumn term where they are taught to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke) and  perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

We have seen considerable success with our sports teams at Winford, winning a number of local and regional football tournaments consecutively over the last few years.  Our highlight was in 2017 reaching national finals and having the chance to take our team to place at a premiership football ground.

Within these sports clubs, as well as recognising an element of competition as healthy, we also use the clubs to emphasise our school values and good sportsmanship.
