OFSTED
Together we Flourish – Our Journey of Improvement
At Winford Church of England Primary School, we are ambitious for every child and committed to providing the highest possible standards of education, care and opportunity.
Our Christian vision, Together we Flourish, and our values of Aspire, Belong and Care underpin our approach to school improvement. We believe that every child deserves an excellent education, positive relationships and the support they need to achieve their potential.
We are proud of the progress our school community is making and are committed to continually strengthening the quality of education and experiences we provide.
Our Most Recent Ofsted Inspection
Winford was last inspected by Ofsted on 14 and 15 January 2025.
The inspection took place under the previous leadership arrangements, before the appointment of our current Headteacher, Mrs Jenny Campbell, in September 2025.
The report reflects the school's provision at the time of that inspection. Since September 2025, we have been implementing a programme of school improvement, building on existing strengths and addressing the areas identified for development.
The January 2025 inspection recognised a number of positive aspects of school life, including children's behaviour, personal development, early years provision and the school's nurturing ethos.
It also identified areas requiring improvement, particularly in curriculum implementation, assessment and ensuring consistently high-quality teaching.
We have used these findings, alongside our own school evaluation, to inform our improvement priorities.
Our School Improvement Journey Since September 2025
Since September 2025, we have been working closely with the Lighthouse Schools Partnership, staff and governors to strengthen our provision and establish a clear, ambitious direction for Winford.
Our work has focused on several important areas.
Strengthening Teaching and Learning
We have prioritised the development of high-quality teaching, with a particular focus on securing strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics.
We are developing consistent approaches to teaching, assessment and classroom practice so that pupils build knowledge and skills progressively and receive appropriate support and challenge.
Developing Our Curriculum
We continue to review and strengthen the implementation of our curriculum, ensuring that learning is purposeful, ambitious and appropriately sequenced.
We are also expanding opportunities for practical, creative and outdoor learning, helping children develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.
Raising Expectations and Achievement
Our value of Aspire reflects our commitment to high expectations for all pupils.
We are strengthening the use of assessment information to identify gaps in learning, plan effective teaching and provide targeted interventions where needed.
We are particularly focused on improving outcomes in writing, securing mathematical understanding and ensuring appropriate challenge for higher-attaining pupils.
Strengthening Inclusion and Pastoral Support
Our value of Belong is central to our commitment to inclusion.
We have developed our approach to supporting pupils with additional needs, including the introduction of a flexible Learning Partner model, targeted interventions and an enhanced alternative curriculum.
We continue to prioritise positive relationships, emotional wellbeing, attendance and early support for children and families.
Developing Our School Culture and Vision
In September 2026, we launched our refreshed Christian vision and three school values: Aspire, Belong and Care.
These provide a shared foundation for our expectations, relationships, curriculum and school improvement work.
We want every child to feel safe, valued and included, while being encouraged and supported to achieve their very best.
Evidence of Improvement
We are pleased that our most recent assessment outcomes provide encouraging evidence of the progress being made.
Our 2026 results include:
-
86% of Reception children achieving a Good Level of Development.
-
92% of Year 1 pupils meeting the expected standard in phonics.
-
A Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check average of 23.4 out of 25, with 62% achieving full marks.
-
Year 6 reading attainment of 86%, above the national figure of 75%.
-
Year 6 mathematics attainment of 79%, above the national figure of 75%.
-
Year 6 grammar, punctuation and spelling attainment of 79%, above the national figure of 74%.
We recognise that there is further work to do, particularly in writing and in increasing the proportion of pupils achieving the expected standard across reading, writing and mathematics combined.
We are encouraged by the progress being made and remain firmly focused on ensuring that improvements are sustained and benefit every child.

Looking Ahead
School improvement is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to evaluating our work carefully, listening to children and families, and continually strengthening our provision.
We believe that Winford today is a school with a clear vision, a committed staff team, high aspirations and a strong determination to provide the very best for its pupils.
We welcome the opportunity for future external evaluation to recognise the work taking place across our school.
